If you are curious about what the Google Doodle is, you’re not alone. The special alteration of Google’s logo is designed to commemorate important holidays, events, and noteworthy historical figures. Past doodles have celebrated the work of dr. ildaura murillo-rohde,  Les Paul, Clara Rockmore, Ferdinand Monoyer, and George Boole.

If you’re not sure what a Doodle is, here are some examples.

Les Paul

The search engine giant has honoured the guitar legend Les Paul on his 96th birthday with a Google doodle. The guitar-shaped Google logo is interactive and plays different notes when the mouse is moved over it. Google has also included a recording function so users can compose songs. Les Paul was one of the most famous guitarists of his generation and helped shape the sound of rock ‘n’ roll. As one of the most influential guitarists of his time, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Since Thursday, the Guitar-shaped Doodle has generated a plethora of responses. People have been playing the guitar interactively to pay tribute to Les Paul. Some have even layered sounds from three versions of the Doodle. Others have created original compositions based on famous songs, such as Hans Zimmer’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” theme song and Billie Jean. Some users have even made their own renditions of famous songs, such as “Billie Jean” and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats” theme song.

Clara Rockmore

This week’s Google Doodle honors the late electronic musician Clara Rockmore. Playing the theremin is a fun way to express yourself with a Google doodle. A theremin is a hand-held musical instrument that combines pitch and volume control. Clara Rockmore is a virtuoso who helped make the theremin a hit. Her work influenced the development of electronic music, and her influence can be seen in today’s doodle.

The doodle pays tribute to Rockmore, a renowned American virtuoso. It features a lesson on how to play a theremin, the first five notes from her classic opera The Swan, and a gear icon to switch between freestyle and freeform modes. It also features an octave, a waveform, and a gear icon for adjusting the pitch. The doodle was create in collaboration with the Clara Rockmore Foundation, artist Robinson Wood, and engineers Kevin Burke and Will Knowles.

Ferdinand Monoyer

The letters in the Google logo light up base on which logic gates are mark underneath them. Boole is an English mathematician who died in 1864, aged 52, from pneumonia. Today, Google is celebrating George Boole’s 200th birthday, and the Doodle celebrates his genius. His work help to create the modern computer age and is consider the father of information technology. Boole invent the Boolean algebra and the concept of binary numbers, which was use in computers today. His theories were publish in 1854 in the book An Investigation of the Laws of Thought, a book that still bears his name.

George Boole’s 200th birthday

Google celebrated the bicentennial of the English mathematician and logician George Boole’s birth on May 3, 2017. His work on algebraic logic and the use of logical operators is widely credit for establishing the foundation for modern computer science. He developed the concept of Boolean logic, which reduces all values to true or false. Boole’s algebra consists of three basic operations: addition, subtraction, and multiplication.

In celebration of Boole’s 200th birthday, Google published a doodle commemorating the mathematician. It features a doodle depicting logic gates derived from Boolean functions.
