When saving gas, the first thing that comes to mind is insulating a house or apartment. And it is correct. A warm house is much more economical and takes care of its inhabitants’ health. The absence of drafts and a comfortable temperature will protect your family from illness.
How do you properly insulate a house, and how much gas savings will it give?
Insulating your home should start with the simplest things. Where is the heat lost? A thermal study of the house (thermal monitoring, thermal imaging) will help to answer this question accurately. Calling a specialist to study heat loss at home costs little (about 1000-1200 UAH), but you will know exactly where and how much heat is being lost, and you will be provided with a complete map of heat loss at home. Thermal control is only possible when the ambient temperature is below 0 and the house is heated because a temperature differential is necessary.

Where does the heat usually go?
Thermal imager for thermal monitoring. Typically, most heat loss falls on the roof of the house; by insulating it with 10-15 cm of mineral wool, excellent results can be achieved, reducing heat loss by 10-20%. Insulation is easy and does not cost much. It is known that warm air rises, and a cold ceiling will significantly cool the room.
Walls, basement. Good wall insulation will retain 10-20% heat, and an insulated floor will add 5-15%. In addition to the fact that wall insulation is essential for warmth, good wall decoration will improve the appearance of your home or apartment.
Errors of builders, designers, defects. Often in a house, there are “cold walls,” steel beams that face the street, act as radiators, and remove heat, various defects, and “haters” of builders. Identifying such problems is difficult and often requires thermal testing. However, insulating a small house area can give good gas-saving results if defects are found.
Excessive infiltration (drafts, excessive ventilation). More heat can escape through drafts than you think. By reducing ventilation in winter, eliminating drafts, and improving the tightness of closing doors and windows, you can achieve from 5 to 25% gas and heat savings, respectively. The humidity of the environment will also rise slightly towards the optimal level, which will positively affect the house’s residents.
Window. Windows are often where the most significant amount of heat loss occurs. Roller shutters, special glass coating, replacement of windows, and double-glazed windows will be expensive, but the savings in gas or solid fuel will be significant.
Don’t let another winter leave you shivering! Schedule your insulation installation now and start enjoying a warmer, more energy-efficient home.
What material should be used to insulate a house or apartment?
The last three materials are used to insulate apartments; vapor permeability for apartments is less critical than for a house. However, when insulating a house, mineral wool has excellent advantages. The house must breathe, and moisture must not accumulate in spaces, so vapor permeability is essential.
Mice often make passages in hard materials (expanded polystyrene, polystyrene, etc.), capable of chewing out a whole labyrinth in the foam.
The cheapest insulation would be to fix the foam and plaster it yourself. The most expensive will be the insulation of min. CottonCotton wool, however, will give the best gas savings and comfort to the house’s residents.
Proper home insulation will save you money on heating and reduce wear and tear on heating equipment; the life of a gas or solid fuel boiler will be significantly extended.
